From the card reverse:
First referred to as lithium crystals (in the Original Series episodes ?Where No Man has Gone Before? and ?Mudd's Women?), what would ultimately come to be called dilithium made its first appearance in Season One's ?The Alternative Factor? and went on to become a key part of the Star Trek mythos. Used to both contain and regulate the reaction of matter and antimatter in the Enterprise's warp core, dilithium allowed for a controlled annihilation reaction to safely channel the enormous power required to operate Starships.
Key to the plot in such episodes as ?Elaan of Troyius? and ?Mirror, Mirror,? the crystals had recurring appearances in all Star Trek television series that followed, including the Filmation animated series, as well as playing a major role in the plot of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Dilithium is also used as a currency in Cryptic Studios' massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Trek Online.
This prop card is a w w w dot vaultcollectibles d o t c o m exclusive and certifies that this is an authentic "dilithium crystal" fragment used in the filming of an episode of Star Trek. It was acquired from Sci-Fi Cafe? (through Chris Doohan, James Doohan?s son) and was originally obtained in the April-August 2007 It?s A Wrap Star Trek auctions. While the auctioneers were unable to determine with certainty the specific episode in which they were used, the crystals most likely appeared in the Rura Penthe mines scene in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Judgement.?
