Item description

Be sure to add me to your favorites list Small Model of the NASA Mars Polar Lander, a 1999 Failed Mars Spacecraft, 3.5 In. This is a mint just out of package condition, small version of the Mars Polar Lander, which was a failed mission to Mars in 1999. It is made of plastic, and is 3 and 1/2 inches across when it's solar panels are fully extended. The panels fold up and down and the robot arm deploys and folds up onto the top of the spacecraft. This was never played with, only stored away for some years as part of my collection. This is a great little collectible of this lost mission to Mars! This lander made it all the way to Mars, but contact was lost as it arrived and it is presumed crashed and destroyed. However, the successful Phoenix Lander would come out of this mission (hence the name, "rising from the ashes"), and it did find frozen water ice in the polar region of Mars, thereby completing the mission the Mars Polar Lander was originally supposed to do.
