Item description

Some religious traditions involve a ritual process of feeding birds. Perhaps most religions had something of the sort the further we look back in time. Religions emerge with and from cultures. Their more intimate beliefs and practices take root in hearts and souls, and then these beliefs and practices emerge in the public collectivity in common rituals, often as elaborately choreographed scenes. It feels good to feed the birds. There is a little skill in doing it well. Landing the food in just the right spot. A concentration. A game to it. A flow. In this photo book, at once in art project, but also a work which sets about probing a scientific problem. I?ll look at ritual bird feeding in the context of Jeju Island?s spiritual life, a thriving example of Eurasian shamanism.
