The Native American Princesses nesting doll represents five beautiful women in traditional Native American outfits. They are also displaying pottery each with a ethnic flair. Each image has hand painted backgrounds and highlights, and for certain elements, Golden Cockerel reproduces the original hand-painted artwork on printed vinyl and artfully applies them to the dolls. Then the dolls have multiple layers of non-toxic water-based lacquer applied. The designs are done at the Golden Cockerel art studio in St. Petersburg, Russia. A lovely gift for any nesting doll collector. Some historic imagery representing North and South America started with the Amazonian Native Queen who represented the Americas from 1575 to 1765. This image was a full-bodied, powerful, nurturing but dangerous woman that embodied the affluence and peril of North and South America. As time went by, the image started changing. Her skin color started to become lighter and she became thinner. Eventually, she resembled the Grecian-Roman goddesses like Athena or Diana. The Statue of Liberty is reminiscent of this image. As the colonies began to move towards independence, the imagery changed back to more of the Native American look and less like the European princess. This newer image represented American Liberty and European Classical virtue translated into New World terms. When real Native American women, like Pocahontas and her sisters, became more popular, the responses to the typical symbol became more complex. The image started to change again to women that were more savage, but still beautiful princesses. Thus, the Princess images of the Native American women came into being.
