Item description
Elasmosaur
Tooth, Prehistoric Marine Reptile, Genuine Tooth, Upper Cretaceous, Worldwide
Shipping
For
sale is a Elasmosaur tooth. The Elasmosaur
was a very large prehistoric marine reptile that swam the oceans millions of
years ago. It is estimated to have been between anywhere between 5 feet –
50 feet long (depending on sub-type). Elasmosaurs
lived during the cretaceous period. This
tooth originates from Morocco.
· The
tooth itself measures about 1.25 - 2
inches long (3.2 to 5cm) long and may differ slightly from what is pictured
in the photos.
· A tooth will be
selected at random from the lot pictured.
Plesiosaurs in general, and Elasmosaurus
in particular, weren't the most accomplished swimmers, ?since they lacked the
hydrodynamic builds of their bigger, meaner and more streamlined cousins, the
pliosaurs. To date, it's unknown whether Elasmosaurus and its ilk lumbered onto
dry land to lay their eggs or gave birth to live young while still swimming
(though the latter is the increasingly favored possibility). We do know,
however, that plesiosaurs went extinct along with the dinosaurs 65 million
years ago, and have not left any current descendants.
