Following the change of the country's name to Myanmar on June 20, 1989, new notes began to be issued with more useful or practical denominations. These are current series: 50 pyas: purple orange, multicolor. Saung gauk - Guilloche pattern. Date of issue: March 27, 1994 1 Kyat: blue-purple. Chinthe - Boat-rowing at Kandawgyi Lake, Yangon. Date of issue: October 31, 1996 5 Kyat: brown blue. Chinthe - Chinlone cane ball game. Date of issue: May 1, 1995 10 Kyat: purple. Chinthe - Karaweik (royal regalia boat). Date of Issue: May 1, 1995 20 Kyat: green. Chinthe - People's Park Elephant Fountain, Yangon. Date of issue: March 27, 1994 The Kyat is the currency of Myanmar equal to 16.3 grams of silver.
