3rd edition revised. 12mo. viii + 518 + (6)pp. Chromo frontis + numerous black white diagrams set pieces. Publisher's red blind stamped pictorial cloth covers, gilt embossed chess board with full set of chessmen in place on front, gilt lettering on spine. Yellow and foxed endpages especially at appendix publisher's list, some minor dampstaining. Frontis and title page age-toned and foxed. Covers : top/bottom spine corners rubbed, bumped and worn. Contents : internal hinges at covers tight, this portion may have been repaired w/ new endpaper. Interior pages browning and foxed in places. Tipped in illustration on page 1 has been cut out, all other of the many illustrations intact. A beautiful artifact from Published by Bell Daldy Bohn's Scientific Library London, 1866 (jb glass)
