Item description
THE INGOLDSBY COUNTRY:
Literary Landmarks Of The "Ingoldsby Legends"
by Charles G. Harper
London: Adam Charles Black, 1904.
First edition, first printing.
1904 date to the red and black printed title page.
Harper, who garnered high acclaim for his numerous self-illustrated travel books and a few drawing technique books, excelled his usual trademark style with this delightful trip to real and created places mentioned in THE INGOLDSBY LEGENDS by Reverend Richard Harris Barham (1788-1845), better known as Thomas Ingoldsby.
A generous ninety plates, detailed illustrations and a map by Harper accompany the text describing flushed-out places, history, and terrain mentioned in the myth-laden classic, including the fictitious ROMNEY MARSH.
Sturdy, handsome and well-preserved.
A short two line white surface scuff to the front cover, else very good plus in deep-green ribbed linen with gilt embossed illustration of a shield with birds and animals to the front cover, with bright gilt embossed titles, rules and borders to the spine, and upper page edges bright gilt; no dust jacket.
Octavo; 274 pages; index; plus two pages of ads to the rear.
