Item description
THE GOLD-SEEKERS:
A Tale of California
by Aimard, Gustave
London: Ward and Lock, 1861.
First edition in English.
Duodecimo.
In three-quarter red leather--with rub-wear to the spine--over marbled boards, with previous damping that is shown with tiny ripples to the boards, bubbling/or small puckers to the end-sheets, and in pale staining to the upper page edges; hairline crack to the front inner hinge, still quite sturdy and usable.
A lovely vintage binding, contemporary with the book and fairly well-preserved for its age.
Middle volume in a trilogy by the "French Fenimore Cooper," that began with TIGER-SLAYER and concluded with INDIAN CHIEF.
This volume first appeared in Paris in 1860 as LA FIEVRE D'OR.
Translated here for the first time in English, and with a brief preface, by Lascelles Wraxall.
A rather scarce first edition.
8vo; 310 pages.
