In a 1% TBE gel, this translates into a run time of approx. 1 hour. Lower voltages can be used of course, and as a general rule a 70 volt run will take twice as long as a 140 volt run. Higher voltages can be used to decrease run time however, higher voltages can produce excessive heat and decrease sample resolution.
