Is the flat-rate shipping option only for the proprietary USPS flate-rate envelopes and boxes? It does not state that nor does it show a™ symbol. It only shows the generic words “flat-rate shipping.”
I have been putting whatever shipping rate I want to put in there for regular envelopes shipping. If I use a USPS™Flat-rate Package, I put the USPS cost for that in that space as well. I don’t use any calculated shipping at this time.
For a rate that I choose to charge for shipping, is it ok that I’ve been putting that in the flate-rate shipping space? Or, am I required to use a shipping profile for a rate that I want to charge?

The flat-rate shipping box is for you to put in what you would charge to ship the product. You can use it for any amount you choose. Many of the old timers here on Bonz initially used that box before the calculated shipping worked correctly
I use the calculator now but I’m sure that the flat-rate box can be used the same way.
Edited to [URL removed] You can specify what type of shipping you’ll be using to send the parcel by selecting from the pull down menu after you check the flat-rate button such as first class or priority thru USPS or you can leave the box as un-defined shipping, if you choose. The benefit of selecting a shipping type will let your customer know how quickly to expect the package. When you select flat-rate shipping it means that no matter where in the US the customer is located the amount you have put in the $ amount box is what will be charged regardless of their locale.
