Different perspective on fees

I am going to present a different perspective on the fee changes. I know this makes some sellers upset because they do not sell enough on the platform to justify $20 or more a month. I absolutely get that. I may not either, which is why I am just going to try it. The worst thing that will happen is I have to CSV my listings to another store somewhere.
For those who want to stick it out, which I am considering since I had JUST started to rebuild on [URL removed]
1. The FVF is going to 11%. That’s doable. I am not sure I’d even change my prices if I still had thousands of listings.
2. The $14.99 new booth setup fee makes complete sense since the majority of fraudulent sellers will not pay anything up front to scam people.
3. The 50 free listings… at first I was like “Nope” but looking at it from a buyer perspective, if someone uploads 25000 listings onto the site, then just kind of abandons it or rarely checks it, that is bad for all sellers here when buyers buy and don’t get the product. This fee ensures that the seller at least logs in enough to handle the billing and makes sure that they don’t have a large number of unavailable items listed.
4. As long as the advertising rate doesn’t end up being the 11%FVF PLUS an additional adv rate, I will be ok with the change.
5. I (and a LOT of other sellers here) have a large feedback profile with a LONG history of sales. That’s not going to transfer anywhere else I move.

Like I said, if you choose to leave I can understand that especially if traffic has fallen off the last couple years. Since I did extremely well on Bonanza in the past, I am going to give it another shot.

i’m fine with 50 free listings, let’s see what happens. just means my time & effort is going to be mainly focused elsewhere for the foreseeable future. hope things work out.

some people dont have the extra 20 dollars a month to shell out for nothing! Especially nowadays!!!!

  1. - Bonanza sends out email sales notifications. As do payment processors. Many have their listing sync’ed to eBay so that automatically adjusts inventory on both ends, faster than most humans. So #3 falls away into significance.

Should read Number 3, not 1. Bottom line – if revenue falls shorts of the costs of selling, exit the platform follows. 50 listings is next to no visibility on a platform of much larger total listings. Lost to the buyers.

(Elizavella_Designs) I completely understand that and made a point to say that in the post. It was just a different perspective after I spent a couple days mulling it over.

(ThePostcardDepot) I understand that, but there are a lot who just download their inventory from somewhere else or import it, and it never gets synced. Like Shopify, Etsy, etc. Those don’t sync like eBay to my knowledge. That leaves a lot of upset buyers who don’t get anything or get a cancellation.

I pay ebay 70/month, but I have hundreds of sales a month over there. 20/month in addition to the FVFS AND remember we pay paypal fees too, is just too much for so little traffic. This site doesn’t even have an app!

whatsitsgalore says: April 22, 2025

I’ve seen items offered by sellers who never bother to check their email for sales, though not here. Yeah, vendors do it. I’m not leaving Bonanza over this. I am removing most of my 1000+ listings, keeping it down to the 50-item maximum. My yearly profit is far too small to pay for non-sales.

Nah.
We will not pay $20 a month for a site with no traffic.
It is that simple.

We are not here for Bonanza and hold no loyality to this empty site.

They have on value.
For the 9% bringing traffic from Google.
If that goes to 11% and does not include Google traffic, the deal is off.

All that jazz about people having abandoned listings? Who does that?
Are you not even running a business?

so then, why are you still here?

EmpressDepot says: April 22, 2025

U have less than 50 listings up for sale. You will not have to pay $20 a month.

speaking of Advertising … you might find this news from today interesting

“(Reuters) – Alphabet’s Google illegally dominated two markets for online advertising technology, a judge ruled on Thursday, dealing another blow to the tech giant and paving the way for U.S. antitrust prosecutors to seek a breakup of its advertising products.

U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema in Alexandria, Virginia, found Google liable for “willfully acquiring and maintaining monopoly power” in markets for publisher ad servers and the market for ad exchanges which sit between buyers and sellers. Publisher ad servers are platforms used by websites to store and manage their ad inventory."

this should go over swell with Bonanza’s new fees & rates…..*facepalm

That plus the trade wars with Canada Mexico and China, that’s going to make for a great year.

EmpressDepot says: April 19, 2025

Question, I’m not sure who would help to take up the advertising if Google had to quit monopolizing as it has been said.

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 19, 2025

bonanza stopped advertising on Bing to my knowledge, according to the tier list of options, you have to have an ebay account in order to get advertised on ebay, when Google gets busted up into individual companies, those companies will likely be charging more for ads, so, who knows,…

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 19, 2025

1 nice big Cluster-****- best thing Bonanza can do at this point is back off the listing fees entirely, start advertising on Bing again & w/ the tariffs hitting hard, a US company should be US Focused & be promoting US Sellers to US buyers as fast & cheap as possible

EmpressDepot says: April 19, 2025

I forgot all about bing…and then there is facebook to but from what I believe with Facebook advertising it is not someone who is doing a search of the item being advertised…..yes, I agree about using Bing.

EmpressDepot says: April 19, 2025

I’m typing from my cell phone, so I tend to mess up. Hope what I said makes sense.

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 20, 2025

just my take on addressing the [URL removed] ‘why did you break it?’, would love to dive in further, but i am going to have to start charging $0.03 per word starting May 1st
