Delicious. No garden is complete without Red Leaf Lettuce. Lolla Rosa is a wonderful heirloom variety with good old-fashioned taste.

Crunchy red outer leaves, dark green heart, vigorous are just a few of the words that describe Lolla Rosa Red Leaf Lettuce. Lolla Rosa Open Pollinated Leaf Lettuce is an Italian Leaf Lettuce especially good for garnishing. Lolla Rosa has heavily frilled dark green leaves tipped with red. Lolla Rosa has a mild flavor and will form a loose head if planted 10" apart.

This early variety of heirloom leaf lettuce is sweet, crisp and tender. Looseleaf lettuce resprouts from a cut stem without losing quality in flavor or texture. The heavily notched, wavey leaves are deepp red in color. Harvest Lolla Rosa Red Lettuce at any stage of growth. Fully mature at 45 days.

Seeds can be sown directly into garden when soil is warm or started in containers and transplanted. This can be grown nicely in containers and clay pots.

We are a small family run seed processor that has a long tradition of farming for many generations. I fondly remember my Grandfather telling stories about his Grandfather tilling the earth and the events that impacted his success. The stories bring to life the courage and creativity required to survive capricious weather and market prices. Our history makes it clear that the rewards of farming, including the birthing of the calves, the bounty of a good harvest, and the family's feeling of being rooted in the soil. I still remember with pride, getting to sit on my Grandfathers lap while driving the tractor for the first time during corn harvest.

In addition to commercial crops, most family farms also have large gardens to grow much of the food consumed on a farm. Growing your own vegetables, flowers, spices and herbs, canning and freezing were a normal part of life on the farm. We always saved seed from each plant for starting the cycle for the next year.
