This is an original promo poster for the Italian Street Painting Festival at the Santa Barbara Mission held May 27, 28, & 29, 1996 celebrating an ancient Italian tradition still followed in the Italian village of Grazie di Curtatone.

In Italy in the 17th century, vagabond artists created sidewalk waorks of chalk art and they often painted the Madonna, thus they were known as madonnari.

Santa Barbara's "I Madonnari" is considered the sister festival.

Poster was originally framed so please see the marks of the metal clasps on some edges. Measures 18" x 24". Hardly any creases.
