HISTORY OF THE 1958 D SAN FRANCISCO LINCOLN WHEAT EAR CENT “S” MINT MARK. The Professional Coin Grading Service (“PCGS”) has been in existance for 30+ years and has graded and certified a combined total of over “2 BILLION COINS” by PCGS World Class Expert Graders renowned for their expertise as to authenciate, certify -and- grade numismatic coinage -and- mint error specimen(s). “Champagne Mint Error Coins” introduces again a previously graded -and- certified “1958 D Lincoln Wheat Ear Cent” with a weakstrike “S” Mint Mark that was submitted by the (“OWNER”) of Champagne Mint Error Coins on October 12,2011 for authentication in regards to the (“specimen”) being certified as a “1958 D SAN FRANCISCO LINCOLN WHEAT EAR CENT” during this time period (“2010-2011”). The (“SAN FRANCISCO MINT”) located in San Francisco, California opened it's new minting faculity in 1937. Beginning in 1955 circulating coinage from San Francisco Mint was “Suspended/Ended” for 13 years. There was no coinage that had the “S” mint mark on any American coinage ( Lincoln Penny, Jefferson Nickel, Washington Quarter -and- Roosevelt Dime, Half Dollars, etc.) during 1955 to 1967. The “San Francisco Mint” reassumed and continued striking circulating coinage with the “S” mint mark in 1968 forthgoing to 2018. The (“1958 D San Francisco Lincoln Wheat Ear Cent”) birth began as (“BLANK PLANCHET”) with a Weak-Strike “S” Mint Mark on the observe side of the
coin during the minting process at the San Francisco Mint located in San Francisco, CA. Since the government during this time frame (“1955-1967”) did not produce any “San Francisco Coinage” and thereafter due to government not wanting to waste the (“BLANK PLANCHETS”) from the San Francisco Minting faculity the “EMPTY PLANCHETS” was basically transfered from the “San Francisco Mint” to be redistributed to the other minting faculities (“DENVER -and- PHILADELPHIA”) Minting Faculities to continue production of the Lincoln Wheat Ear Cent 1955-1958 (“Blank Planchets) into more coinage from the “Denver” and “Philadelphia” minting faculities.
Hence the (“SPECIMEN”) identified within this (“AUCTION”) is (“ONE”) of the “Lincoln Cent Blank Planchet(s)” that was at the San Francisco minting faculitiy before beginning it's “LIFE” again at the (“DENVER MINT”) to be finially struck as the coin identified as a (“1958 D Lincoln Wheat Ear Cent”). Keep in mind that the 1st origin of this “Extradnatory -and- Incredible” specimen has a long story and a long journey to be told as the (“specimen”) shows a clearly defined (“S MINT MARK”) next to the right of the date “1958” (Please refer to the first 3 pictures in advertisement) in the attached photographs featured. The (“OWNER”) received the (“specimen”) from (“PCGS”) and contacted The Professional Coin Grading Service as to inquire about the (3) PCGS WORLD EXPERT(S) “Written Evaluation” of the (“coin”) the (“Owner”) was told the following exact words from the written evaluation from the (“PCGS”) 3 Renowned PCGS WORLD CLASS COIN GRADER(S) as follows:
PCGS WORLD CLASS GRADER 1: Agreed. It is a “S” Mint Mark on the coin.
PCGS WORLD CLASS GRADER 2: It looks like a “S” Mint Mark on the coin but I can't be certain. The grader's decision was “undecided”.
PCGS WORLD CLASS GRADER 3: No. It is not a “S” Mint Mark.
