Vintage Bird Egret Heron Oriental Asian Symbols Brooch Pin Harman’s
Art Nouveau Nature Scene
Chinoiserie Decorative Jewelry Piece
Rectangular Shape Brass
Designer Signed
Egret Heron Crane
Silverplate Silvertone Silver Tone Finish

This is a lovely oriental inspired design made by Harman’s. It features a bird, an Egret, Heron or Crane standing on one leg, a common pose for this type of bird. The crane is the Chinese symbol of longevity. There are Asian symbols or letters on a textured bamboo like background, which show the Oriental influence. I believe the second Chinese lettering stands for ‘Happiness”. It measures just over 1 ½ inches long and 1 ¼ inches tall.  It is signed on the back “Harman’s”; I have been unable to find any information about this company. I did find several Sash Pins that are signed the same way. This style of artwork, known as Chinoiserie reflects Chinese or Asian qualities or motifs.

It is in great vintage condition as you can see from the many enlarged photographs. It looks to be some type of silver tone, silver plate or wash finish over brass; the brass shows faintly through in a few spots where the silver has worn off. The silver seems to also vary slightly in color with magnification. There is a slight bend to the pin closure, but I believe it was made that way and it works just fine. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would make an excellent gift for any bird lover. It will be the perfect addition to your collection of vintage and oriental jewelry. It is sure to be a conversation starter.
