This adorable Pelican bird brooch is made of glazed ceramic. The body is grey with 14k gold trim accents and the bird is sitting on a brown piling with blue water swirling around the base. This is an older brooch made by the well-known Florida artist, Sharon Scalise. It is signed on the back “SCALISE 1995”. Her work has been exhibited in Galleries throughout the West Coast of Florida. She works in various mediums such as glass and clay. Ceramic glazed jewelry pieces were common types of work for her in the 1990s, more recently her creations have been done using glass-enamel cloisonné with silver and gold to create wearable art jewelry pieces. Many of her figural pieces are inspired from the sea or nature. It measures approximately 1 ¾ inches wide from the beak to the tail and 2 inches tall from the top of the head to the base of the water.

It is in excellent vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There are no chips or cracks or crazing of the glaze. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.
