The bowl has scalloped edges with an attractive border and traces of a gold band. The chinoiserie designs around the cavetto are Chinese scholar objects interspersed with flowers. The design in the well is of a floral arrangement. This pattern was produced circa 1900.
 
The bottom of the bowl is marked J&G Meakin, Hanley, England. Japan Pat with a truncated number. The number 12 is also impressed on the base and the number 5 stamped on it.

10” (25.4 cm) long x 7 ¾” (19.7 cm) wide x 2” (5.1 cm) deep. Weighs 1 lb 1.3 oz (495 g)
 
CONDITION
 
There is a small hairline, an old chip under the rim, and numerous glaze flaws. The glaze shows significant crazing and many of the craze lines are stained brown. Only traces of the original gilding along the edge is visible.
