Fred Press (1919-2012) was a very versatile and prolific designer artist of many talents. He was a sculptor, painter, glass designer, author, illustrator, and commercial artist. Together with his brother, he formed a company called Contemporary Arts Inc. in Boston in the 1930s. He became the leading designer and Executive Vice President of the New York City Rubel and Company in the early 1950s. A lot of the glassware he designed included 22-karat and 24-carat gold as well as bright colors. They are still very sought-after by mid-century art and glassware lovers.
