The archaic-style spoon has a deep bowl and a handle shaped like a goose head. The flat resting base has rounded edges.
The nephrite has lighter veins and spots. The stone is very hard, dense, translucent and cool to the touch. An applied brown polish has collected in all the recesses and along the edges of the base. This has given the stone a darker brown color than it would have naturally.
The spoon was purchased from an old estate and so has some age, but is likely less than 40 year old.
MEASUREMENTS
4.1/8” (10.5 cm) long. Weighs 2.4 oz (65 g)
CONDITION
The rim has several chips, as well as one small area of discoloration. There is also a fissure in the side of the bowl of the spoon. As mentioned previously, a brown residue was applied to the stone and has collected in the recesses.
While not ancient itself, the spoon bears the appearance of an ancient jade artifact. It is still a nice piece of jade.
