HAROLD (HAL) GOODWIN had previously written several of the RICK BRANT titles in the late 1940s for Grosset & Dunlap, under the pseudonym JOHN BLAINE; so it was not a stretch for Goodwin to offer this one-shot RIP FOSTER title to the rival juvenile publishing company of Whitman Publishing in 1952.  As far as science fiction goes, it was better than average fare for juvenile readers of the early 1950s, although many of the b&w illustrations by E. DEANE CATE seem to have their roots in the 1940s FLASH GORDON comic strips, as created by ALEX RAYMOND.  The book was deserving of an additional release in 1958 -- re-titled ASSIGNMENT IN SPACE WITH RIP FOSTER -- with an outstanding glossy, wraparound cover.  If you're a fan of the RICK BRANT series, don't miss out on RIP FOSTER!
