About The Record:

The Star, Star! (re-titled Those Were the Happy Times for its 1969 re-release) is a 1968 American biographical-musical film directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews. The screenplay by William Fairchild is based on the life and career of British performer Gertrude Lawrence. The liner notes suggest, "In donning the mantle of Gertie for STAR!, Julie Andrews makes no attempt to impersonate the late stage star; she has, instead, sought to capture the aura and the spirit of this magical performer and the wildly improbable era in which she streaked across the theatrical heavens. It is Julie's own lovely, crystal voice and her fresh, exuberant personality which pays tribute to the talents of Gertrude Lawrence."
