Camphor alcohol is a solution for use on the skin. It is used for rubbing into painful joints in the case of rheumatoid arthritis and the prevention of bedsores (worn skin). Camphor alcohol is an irritating agent with a so-called “delaying” effect: if the drug is rubbed in, the skin irritation reflexively dilates the local blood vessels, creating a feeling of warmth and comfort in painful joints. If camphor alcohol is lightly applied to the skin, a feeling of coolness occurs and itching is reduced (prevention of bedsores).
1 ml of solution contains 20 mg of racemic camphor (Camphora racemica).
Usage
Camphor alcohol is a solution for use on the skin. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, 2-5 ml (depending on the size of the joint) is rubbed into the skin over the joint 1-2 times a day. To prevent bedsores, it is usually rubbed into the areas of the skin where the body rests on the bed while sleeping, usually in the evenings before going to bed. For seriously ill patients, it can be rubbed in several times a day. Camphor alcohol should not be used by children.
