This is for a pair of new custom made solid state L.E.D. license plate light/lens assemblies for all W123 models including the wagon.
At night the rear of a W123 is very dim overall especially next to modern cars. These days our stock license plate lights are barely cutting it after 40+ years of diesel exhaust. I decided to do something about this when a friend got a ticket(warning) for their dim license plate lights.
In order to get bright and clear license plate lights the only choice has been brand new stock lenses. The problem is the stock lenses are NLA and they cost quite a bit if you can find them. Even then the plastic on NOS lenses has already turned dull just sitting in the box. These modern light/lens assemblies cost much less and are crystal clear. By all means hold onto your stock lenses for car shows, etc. but for daily driving you want visibility.
One other benefit of these assemblies is when the trunk lid is up they actually provide useable area lighting.
Fitment anomaly: I encountered a 1979 W123 in which the size of the opening where these mount was more narrow by about 1mm. If you have a very early W123 you might need to work about 0.5mm off of each side of the opening with a flat file. This area is completely hidden so the only way anyone might be able to notice it would be to lift the trunk lid and then remove the lenses.
