A South Korean contribution to the anti-communist propaganda that monster movies at times were used for in the mid-sixties. This was after the monsters had been seen as resulting from American nuclear policies and before they came to be depicted as controlled by aliens out to dominate the world and to escape pollution.

YONGARY, MONSTER FROM the DEEP is released  by an atomic blast that caused an earthquake in China. It first surfaces near the border of Panmonjom where it causes the destruction of 'Freedom House' before invading South Korea and destroyoing Seoul. It drinks gasoline and devours an ice-making plant before an ingenious Korean scientist identifies its weakness:

It is vulnerable to an ingredient known as X2. This substance is sprayed onto the creature which collapses, no doubt ready for a resurrection in a sequel, which never happened.

Yongary's appearance is remarkably similar to the Godzilla suit worn in Japan, although its tail seems considerably longer, incorporating aspects of Baragon. The Korean landscape is used to good effect and the overall impression is favourable to the genre.
