It was the Hopi Indians who directed Coronado's lieutenants to this great Canyon in 1540. The Indians in the picture are de- scendants of this tribe, whose reservation is nearby. They gaze with admiration and deep contentment upon this vast indescribable expanse of grandeur, one mile deep and 13 miles across at this point.
