Obverse description: Francis, seated, in ceremonial dress, crowned by a woman draped in the antique style and wearing a helmet.

REVERSE

Reverse legend: SEMPER: TRIUMPHANS..

Reverse description: Crowned double-headed eagle holding a sword and a scepter from one talon, and the cruciferous globe from the other.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

AUSTRIA - Tyrol - I FRANCOIS OF LORRAINE

(1745-1765)

Francis I (8/12/1708-18/08/1765) is the son of Leopold of Lorraine and Elisabeth Charlotte of Orleans. He succeeded his father in the duchies of Lorraine and Bar in 1729. In 1736, he renounced his two duchies he exchanged against the Grand Duchy of Tuscany (1736-1765) and promised to succeed Charles VI of Habsburg after marrying his daughter Marie-Therese (1736). He had a total of sixteen children Joseph II, Leopold II and Marie-Antoinette, wife of Louis XVI. He had to fight for five years to get the imperial title (1740-1745). Emperor, he remained dominated by his wife and died in 1765.
