This listing is for The Doobie Brothers Rockin' Down the Highway - The Wildlife Concert VHS NEW SEALED.

Actors: The Doobie Brothers
Run time: 1 hour and 55 minutes
Release date: August 20, 1996
Studio: Sony Legacy

The Doobie Brothers is a eclectic collection of superb musicians who get together from time to time and play the widest variety of music of any band in history - with the possible exception of the Beatles. But while the Beatles played tributes to early American rock and roll, the Doobie Brothers cover the modern era from motown to to Hawaiian, with special emphasis on outstanding saxaphone, guitar, and percussion. In May of 1996, The Doobie Brothers united to record and film this very special concert, benefitting the Wildlife Conservation Society. They performed a hit-loaded set which included 20 rocking, rollicking songs and introduced two new songs "Wild Ride" and "Slow Burn".

It's a Doobie delight as members of the veteran group's different eras convene for Rockin' Down the Highway, a 20-song concert recorded in '96 mainly in New York. The show features all three of the band's principal singer-writers: guitarist Tom Johnston, who fronted the early, hard-rocking hits like "Listen to the Music," "China Grove," and "Long Train Running" (all performed here, of course, to rapturous audience response); keyboardist Michael McDonald, who replaced Johnston in the mid-'70s and whose superb voice and blue-eyed soul influence resulted in perhaps their finest single hit, "What a Fool Believes" (included here as part of a segment recorded in Nashville); and guitarist Patrick Simmons, who provided a more folkie-acoustic influence (a la "Black Water") and spanned both the Johnston and McDonald eras. The Doobie Brothers' harmony singing is spot-on, the playing is righteous, the band rocks, there's plenty of interview material between songs (and a music-only option for those who prefer to get right to the point)... and to top it off, some of the proceeds of which go the Wildlife Conservation Society. So what's not to like?

The Doobie Brothers are an American rock band from San Jose, California, known for their flexibility in performing across numerous genres and their vocal harmonies. Active for five decades, with their greatest success in the 1970s, the group's current lineup consists of founding members Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons, alongside Michael McDonald and John McFee, and touring musicians including John Cowan, Marc Russo, Ed Toth, and Marc QuiƱones. Other long-serving members of the band include guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, bassist Tiran Porter and drummers John Hartman, Michael Hossack, and Keith Knudsen.
