Up for bid is a 19th century Fourneau F. Besnard  made oil lamp.

The Maison Besnard was founded in 1854 under the name  Maison Maris  ( 1854-1869)  having changed several times its name.

In 1864 the engineer Frédéric Besnard joined the company as an engineer and director, becoming a partner of the company in 1869. From 1870 to 1879 the company will be named Maris & Besnard.

In 1879 Frédéric Besnard becomes sole successor of the company and thus from 1880 to 1893 the company denominates  F. Besnard.

In 1894 the eldest son and two of Frédéric  Besnard's sons-in-law are part of the company that became known from 1894 to 1904  F. Besnard Père, Fils & Gendre .

Finally, in 1904, Frédéric Besnard retired from the company and ceded to his son and sons-in-law the management of the company that is now known as  Besnard, Maris & Antoine .
