This book contains 72 submissions of stories and many black and white photos. We came up with the idea of printing a book of early day schools and maybe preserving some history of Sublette County. We wrote letters to teachers and pupils asking for stories and pictures. We wanted something funny, happy, or sad that had happened in our schools. The area that became Sublette County was formed from parts of Fremont and Lincoln Counties by the State Legislature on February 15, 1921.  The first election was held in November 1922, with Mrs. L. D. (Claire) Tanner installed as the first County Superintendent of Schools. She commuted to Pinedale Meetings with the mail carrier, "Prof" Sommers, in a "Cooster" which in cold weather had a heated brick as a foot warmer and an oil stove, the fumes of which often made her ill. Thirty-seven schools with thirty-eight teachers in nine school districts came under her jurisdiction. We are happy with the improvements made in the schools of the county. We are cognizant of the changing times and their impact on education and are preparing to meet the challenges of the New Frontier.
