Antique Cabinet Card Photograph. Identified as Arthur E. Skewes. (One note of confusion is the photo is dated May 10, 1894 but online genealogical information reports he was born in 1881 which would make him 13 years old in this image, and he is obviously younger than that. I would suggest perhaps the photo was taken in 1884, not 1894 which would make him three years old in this photo.) He was the son of Edwin Bottomley Skewes and Alice Collier Skewes, and the grandson of Samuel Skewes and Ruth Bottomley Skewes. Arthur was born in 1881 and died September 6, 1921. He is buried in Yorkville, Facine Co., Wisconsin. He was married to Irene Elizabeth Olson Skewes (1889-1982). They had a child named Arthur R. Skewes (1922-2006). Arthur E. had a brother named George Jessop Skewes (1900-1964). Photo by Billings studio of Racine, Wisconsin. Comes with handwritten photo album identifier as shown, and additional handwritten identification on the reverse side. Measures approximately 4.25 x 6 including mount. Condition: This is an original photograph, not a copy or reproduction. It is in excellent condition. Comments: Samuel Skewes was born July 10, 1811 and died November 18, 1898, and is buried in Yorkville, Racine Co., Wisconsin. He was married to Ruth Bottomley Skewes who was born February 16, 1832 and died November 19, 1863. She is also buried in Yorkville. Samuel had a previous wife Catherine Lugg Skewes (1816-1854.) The children of Samuel and Catherine included Samuel P. Skewes (1842-1902), George Skewes (1844-1897), Margaret Ann Skewes (1848-1893), and Sarah Skewes (1849-1868). The children of Samuel and Ruth were Edwin Bottomley Skewes (1858-1913), Emma Skewes Hoyt (1860-1927), Eleanor Jessop (Jessup) Skewes (1864-1893), and Thomas Henry Skewes (1869-1939). We have several additional antique photographs of this family sold separately. Additional Comments: The photo(s) in this listing were removed from a set of three antique albums originally belonging to Newton Henry Bottomley (1880-1967) and his wife Edna May Hay (1887-1976) who lived in Price, Wisconsin. Many of the other album photos, which are sold separately, were taken in Racine Co. Wisconsin and included Bottomley and related families Sheard, Gooder, Hay, Burns, Skewes, and Hoyt.
