Viracocha is not a personal name but a title indicating Supreme Creator in various pre-Inca pantheons. Viracocha is the great creator deity, one of the most important deities in the Inca pantheon, the God of the Sun and of Storms. He wears the sun as his crown, with thunderbolts in his hands. His tears are rain.

According to Inca legend Viracocha personally gave Manco Capac, the first Inca ruler, a special headdress and battle axe.

Legend says that in the beginning Viracocha emerged from the sacred waters of Lake Titicaca. He created Earth and time, summoning the sun, moon, planets, and stars to emerge from the Island of the Sun in the center of the lake. He took stones from the shore and molded them into human beings. Viracocha gave people clothing, seeds, songs, and... spirituality.

Viracocha is an omniscient, all powerful deity, a Supreme Creator.

The name Viracocha sometimes poetically translated as "Sea of Creation" or "Sea of Potential."

Viracocha is the force of creative energy, a source of Potential.

He manifests any way he wishes; however, typical forms include a handsome man, lightning, hailstones, and rainbows.
