INTRODUCTION

These architectural antique pieces can be reinstalled, basically as accents in your home, kitchen, bathroom or garden. Or collected, and you can discover an exiting new world !.
These are excellent quality items. Colors are firm, and intense, but not plain, because if tile has a low relief or high relief enamel will deposit there in different way so an elegant color on color variety is achieved. As was a handcraft, varieties from one tile to other is expected. Besides its unique looking caused by a gentle natural crazing conferees these pieces a sophisticated looking, that will dress your space. The materials used those years were by far much better than modern, you will not find a single modern tile that can have those exact rare color shades and finishing. You will not disappointed, we have been dealing in for years with an always positive response from you.

ITEM DESCRIPTION

STYLE: Art Nouveau
TECHNIQUE: Manufacture: Dust pressed clay tile using a mould & horsehead press, then burned. Decoration: Relief molded majolica finished with colored glazes.
ORIGIN: Alfred Meakin Ltd in Turnstall Staffordshire - U.K.
MARKS: Each tile in our store has a characteristic factory background some factories used stamped logos on reverse.
DIMENSIONS: 6x3 inches each tile. Thickness of biscuit is 0.33 inches aprox.
APPROXIMATE DATE: Between 1890 to 1910

ITEM CONDITION This tile is in very fine condition, no flaws or repairs exist. Cement on reverse was carefully removed so minimal traces are remaining. Surface, as you can see, has a firm color and smooth glaze surface. Only minimal scratches and tiny chips may be seen, but on edges so easily hidden with grouting when reinstalling. Nothing for a more than 100 year old architectural piece.
If you are buying many of them and you want a picture to have a look of the general condition no problem to supply, but image shown is well representative of tiles you will get. I am very careful when selecting the pieces to my clients.

AUTHENTICITY Attention Our tiles are original antiques. For that reason you will get an exclusive product, that will differ a lot with modern reproductions. Neither the high quality enamels are reached by modern industry, nor the biscuit because it is no longer made employing hand operated dust presses .
These tiles have resisted 100 years and will resist 100 years more with superb lively colors only achieved by ancient technique production.

ORIGIN These tiles com from demolition and uninstall in our Uruguayan cities where they were used in great profusion in the early XX century. The economic boom of our cities at the beginning of the century made it possible to use large quantities of rich material that combined with a great expansion of city areas demanding of easiness and fast construction made tiling a perfect finishing material.A subsequent economic decline did preserve these gems because of low pressure over this area of real estate retained by this city many of these homes undisturbed.

CONDITION AND QUANTITIES GENERAL COMMENT As you can see on most item listings there are more than one pieces available. Condition of all others is identical to this shown. Also colors painting etc are the same with minimal imperceptible variations as these items were done in a handcrafted way. We sell items per unit or in quantities, but these varies a lot depending on tile pattern. Of some tiles we have a few pieces while of others we have dozens and in some cases up to 300 pieces.
