Vintage Coiled Snake Brooch Pin Black Figural Rattlesnake Rhinestones
Spiral 23 Studded Clear Stones
Dark Pewter Color
Textured Metal Scales
Ophiology or Herpetology

This is an unusual dark pewter colored coiled rattlesnake with clear rhinestones on the body. It almost has an Art Deco look to it. The head is studded with three rhinestones. The eyes are also rhinestones. There are a total of 23 Rhinestones. I'm not sure of the metal, but a magnet does not stick to it. The dark metal has designs that go all around and the rhinestones are set along the snakes back, it almost has the appearance of Marcasite. It is textured to give the appearance of snake scales. The intricately coiled snake looks ready to strike. It is not signed.

The circular brooch or pin measures approximately 2 inches across from the mouth to the tail tip. It is quite heavy and weight 1.2 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 34 grams. It is a gorgeous piece in very good condition, no stones missing and a solid c-clasp on the back. A few of the rhinestones have some yellowing of the glue, and another rhinestone appears to have been set in a little crooked (see enlarged pictures). You don't really notice without the magnification, but I wanted to point it out. This reminds me of the style that was popular in the Art Deco period of the 1920s and 1930s, but I don't know when this was made.

This would be a great gift for any snake lover, a real conversation starter. It would also make an unusual present for someone who is graduating in one of the Zoology fields such as; Ophiology (study of snakes) or Herpetology (study of snakes and reptiles). It is also the perfect addition to your snake collection and you don't have to feed this one!
