Alder buckthorn

Latin name: Rhamnus frangula

Alder buckthorn is an irregularly branched shrub with brittle twigs that can grow to heights of 1-3 m (3.3-10 ft).
Tea made from the bark can be used as a laxative. It is also used for hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure and menstrual disorders.
Alder buckthorn's bark is found in many herbal tea blends. Long-term use can lead to gastrointestinal complaints.
Fresh bark is poisonous. Before use, the bark must be dried and stored for at least a year.
