“There are many methods for opening and holding sacred space, and then for closing it again, and the energy from my favorite methods is contained within this attunement.

In the Cherokee way of things, I generally use a gourd rattle that I have had for over 20 years, start at the east, and shake the rattle twice up above my head in front of me, twice at about the height of my waist, and the once each between those points to my left, in the center, and then to the right of me. Then I call upon the Dragons and spirits of the east to attend me and invite them to help in my work and to share in the blessings from doing so. Then I repeat this to the south, the west and the north before facing the east once again, and also do so above me and below me to honor the spirits above and the spirits below. I end by honoring my spirit within, and then I do the ritual or healing work that I am there for. At the end of the process then I reverse it and offer gratitude instead.

In Welsh Celtic Wicca we also cast three circles of salt Copper sulphate and sulfur. Then do a similar process before we light the sulfur circle to burn all around the circle, and state “Let only good enter this circle. May all darkness and evil be burned by these fires of protection! So mote it be!” An added benefit in the spring and summer is that the sulfur smoke drives away the bloodsucking bugs that make nude ritual work less than truly fun. What this does physically, it does even more powerfully spiritually. This Welsh Wiccan practice was passed down from the time of the Picts and druids to us today. There are times when it is good for everyone involved to do all or part of the physical practice, but there are often times when it would be better to do this quickly and without making a great show of it. It is for this reason that I have sent out Orbs of Life to replicate the energy from every time that I have been involved in either of these practices – literally hundreds of both of them – and to place that energy into this process for you. So, when it is simply easier to do, or you desire to do so secretly for your own security or the safety of others, then when you finish this empowerment all you will have to do is either silently or out loud say, “Sacred Space!” and it will be establishes all around you and any group or space that you are in. If you intend it for a certain property then it will also do so for an area up to five feet beyond the edges of the property.

When you are finished with your work there then either say or think, “Close Sacred Space!” and it will be as you have decreed. In truth, all of the earth and Creation is sacred at all times, but there is no good reason to focus undue attention or extra energy to the space that you are leaving. To do so is a waste of energy, and it can also attract unwanted attention that may interfere in what you are trying to accomplish in your ritual work there.”
